State Representative Laurie Funderburk District 52  Kershaw County accepts the first rose of The Marine Rose program just kicked off in Kershaw County. This is a Marine tradition that dates back to 1773. The Kershaw County Leathernecks Detachment #1146 will be giving the token roses as they seek donations for their charity programs. Commandant Gil Brown (left) and Adjutant Given Webster (right) ask for you to please help and accept a rose in honor of Marines that have served

OUR ROSE PROGRAM DESERVES IT'S OWN SEPERATE REPORT----------WE HAD FOUR MEMBERSTHAT BRAVED THE WILES OF GETTING OUT AND FACE THE PUBLIC LAST SAT. AT TWO LOCATIONS IN CAMDEN. REALLY WAS A TEST RUN FOR US AND I AM GLAD TO TELL ALL OF YOU IT WAS A SUCCESS!!!!!!!! PEOPLE DO RESPOND TO OLD CRANKY MARINES WITH COVERS - RED COATS-SHIRTS-WHATEVER STANDING IN FRONT OF A BUSINESS WITH A CUP IN HAND. 

GETTING THE INFO OUT ABOUT THE ROSE IS A GREAT WAY TO GET THIS JOB DONE . WE CAN WORK THIS PROGRAM YEAR ROUND AT OUR APPOINTED TIMES AND PLACES. BE SURE TO THANK FRED FLORIAN,JACK WALDEN, AND GIVEN WEBSTER FOR RUNNING THIS "O-COURSE" TEST FOR OUR DETACHMENT.---------SEMPER FI------GIL BROWN
